Who we are.

These lands

Spanning generations, acknowledgement of the land is a traditional custom of Indigenous people of Great Turtle Island and foundational protocol for reconciliation to begin to occur. It honours the authentic history of these lands, its original people and begins to tell the story of the creation of this country that has historically been intentionally omitted.

In the spirit of respect, reciprocity and truth, I honour & acknowledge that I work and live in the territory of the Indigenous people of Treaty 7.
This includes the Blackfoot people of the Siksika, Kainai, and Piikani, as well as the Îyâxe Nakoda nations of Good Stoney, Bearspaw and Chiniki ,and Tsuut’ina nations. We also acknowledge that these lands are part of the Battle River territory of the Otipemisiwak Métis Government.

Being permitted to be allowed to work, play and reside on this sacred gathering place known as Moh’kinsstis, which today we also refer to as the City of Calgary, provides us with an opportunity to actively engage in reconciliation and it is our responsibility and duty to do so.

Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada’s 94 Calls to Action

Our Vision

We envision a province where trans and gender diverse individuals are surrounded by positivity, affirmation, and support free from barriers, stigma, and discrimination.

Our Mission

To that end, our mission is to connect trans and gender diverse youth, adults, and families with comprehensive and low barrier access to the support they need and deserve.

Our Values

Skipping Stone has three core values that guide all the work we do with individuals and communities; empower, support, love.

EMPOWERMENT comes through education, compassion, and illuminating the unique strengths, skills, and talents of others.
SUPPORT is tangible and intangible. We value our community and aim to lift others up. We stand alongside our service users and create space for expression and belonging.
LOVE is at the core of our work because it is at the core of humanity. Our love for our family, friends, colleagues, and community abounds. We aim to share this love and light with all those we encounter.

In the spirit of accountability, we are happy to openly share our policies and practices that guide the implementation of these values.
